The redevelopment of the Fieldhouse is an exciting opportunity to build a stronger community presence for the sports organizations at Ambleside, and will serve as the gathering place for players, coaches and parents. The District of West Vancouver has awarded the design of the new Ambleside Fieldhouse to Bruce Carscadden Architects and the design and review process is underway.
The Fieldhouse vision includes the complete renovation of the existing concrete “bunker” building to an up to date multifunctional facility that includes:
- Four equally-sized and upgraded change rooms with showers and washroom facilities
- Two offices for sports club head coaches
- Public universal washrooms
Phase 2 of the Fieldhouse is targeted for 2011 and will depend largely on community contributions.
The vision for this phase includes a second building structure of similar size and dimensions that would sit beside the existing Fieldhouse with space for a covered walkway in between. This building could include meeting rooms, space for officials and tournament administration, a concession area, as well as a covered 2nd floor observation deck and lounge area with unbeatable, 360-degree views of the sports fields, the park, the mountains and ocean.
This is a great opportunity to build a full-featured Fieldhouse that will serve as a home base for the sport clubs, according to the community sport leaders.
“Parents will have somewhere to go during rainy games and we will be able to encourage more social activity to keep older youth and adults involved in sports” says Bill Sparling, President of the West Vancouver Soccer Club. "This is also a once-in-a-lifetime naming opportunity for a family or leader in the community," he said.
“We are excited about the possibilities for the Fieldhouse. It will be fantastic for hosting community events and as a meeting place for players and spectators during and after games”, adds Keith Purchase, President of the West Vancouver Field Hockey Club.
