West Van Soccer Club
The club has a long tradition of excellence. Since it's beginnings in the 1920's, the club has been involved in the promotion, organization, and development of soccer at the youth level in the Municipality of West Vancouver. The ideal of the club is to provide for participation by all who wish to play soccer at the level of their individual ability.
Each year approximately 1,800 youth from West Vancouver participate in the club’s community and advanced level soccer programs, with well over 100,000 of the District’s citizen’s having at one time benefited from the club's programs since the club’s inception. Several players from WVSC have gone on to compete Nationally and Internationally over the years, with several members each year being chosen to participate in the highly regarded Whitecaps youth training program. The club also runs several popular, community level soccer training programs that run year round.
In 2003 WVSC was instrumental in spearheading the upgrade to fields D and E to create all weather turf surfaces useable by a variety of community sports groups. Today represents an exciting era for the club, as the long-envisioned re- development plans of the Fieldhouse and other important community sports facilities at Ambleside come to fruition.
West Van Field Hockey Club
WVFHC is the largest field hockey club in North America. We offer excellent recreational and high-performance hockey-playing opportunities for our 2500 members: men, women, girls and boys from ages 6 to 86. Our club has trained and developed dozens of provincial and national team players over our 40-year history who have competed in the Olympics, FIH World Cup, Commonwealth Games and the Pan-Am Games.
WVFHC runs a very popular junior girls high-performance program, with participation by over 150 girls from U12 to U18. Every year approximately 50 juniors are selected to provincial level teams from U14 to U18. Ten men and women are playing for BC or Canada at the senior level. For more than 10 years, dedicated volunteers from West Van Field Hockey Club have been developing plans for a home turf field specifically designed for field hockey on the North Shore. Since 2005, field hockey players, their families, coaches and officials have been raising funds to build a new home field.
The partnership between the District and the sports groups on this page uniquely embraces and extends the District's vision and mission.
